Nathan Thompson

Nathan Thompson

Nathan is a Licensed Counselling Therapist (LCT), an Approved Supervisor with the College of Counselling Therapists of New Brunswick (CCTNB), a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), and a Fellow of the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis & Psychotherapy. He is also a part-time Graduate Teaching Associate at the University of New Brunswick and has more than 15 years of university teaching and research experience at the University of Toronto, the University of New Brunswick, and St. Thomas University.

Nathan’s doctoral and postgraduate training has focused extensively on psychoanalytic thought and relational psychoanalytic approaches to psychotherapy. He has taught psychotherapy theory to master’s-level counselling students and has facilitated professional workshops focused on relational psychotherapy and clinical practice. He has been in private practice since 2019, where his work is grounded in a relational approach and a deep interest in the ways that relationships, identity, culture, and lived experience shape the therapeutic process.

Nathan is actively involved in the counselling and psychotherapy profession. He serves on the Registration Committee of CCTNB and the Ethics Committee of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and is particularly interested in supporting the development of thoughtful, reflective, and relationally oriented clinical practice.

Outside of his professional life, Nathan lives in Fredericton with his husband and their two young boys. Much of his time is spent with his family, as he and his husband try (with very little success) to convince time to slow down.
